Court Security Officer

About the Role Join our team! The City of Kentwood is seeking a Court Security Officer to support the 62B District Court.

In this role, you'll help maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment for judges, court staff, attorneys, defendants, jurors, witnesses, and members of the public.

You'll provide security and access control, monitor courtroom activity, assist with detainee movement and custody, and respond to emergency situations when necessary.

This position is ideal for someone with a background in law enforcement, corrections, or public safety who is comfortable working in a court environment and making sound decisions when safety and security are involved.

About the 62B District Court The City of Kentwood is home to the 62-B District Court, which helps resolve disputes, promote rehabilitation and protect the community through its services.

The court strives to earn the public's trust and confidence by providing a fair and just forum for the resolution of civil and criminal disputes, providing services in a professional, timely and efficient manner with respect and courtesy, educating and providing services in an understandable and user-friendly fashion, being accountable for the resources invested in the court and recognizing the changing needs of the judicial system and the people it serves.

The court has a civil division, criminal division, landlord/tenant division, probation department, small claims division and traffic division.

What You'll Do Provide security and manage access control for the court and associated public facilities Screen visitors entering court facilities and monitor court security systems Maintain a safe and orderly environment for judges, court staff, attorneys, defendants, jurors, witnesses, and the public Maintain courtroom decorum and call the court to order when court is in session Separate potential witnesses from jurors before and during trials Transport detainees and assist with moving detainees to and from courtrooms, holding cells, and vehicles Take defendants into custody and assist with pat-down searches and preparation for transport Monitor the care and custody of detainees while they are in custody Respond to emergency situations and notify emergency personnel when necessary Administer basic first aid, AED, or CPR when required Open and secure court facilities and assist with courtroom setup Serve as a liaison between the judge, attorneys, courtroom staff, and the public Manage lost and found property Answer questions and provide information regarding court policies, rules, and procedures Assist with general office support, document delivery, and other duties as assigned Maintain accurate records and contribute to a professional and effective court environment About You You're a dependable and safety-focused professional who can remain calm and professional in a court environment.
