Job Summary

The Payroll Compliance and Tax Specialist supports the Payroll Tax and Compliance function by helping maintain compliance across payroll and a smooth, well-controlled tax administration process.

This role administers payroll tax, garnishments, SOX controls & audit, regulatory compliance, reporting, reconciliation, and analysis activities that require interpretation of payroll policies, tax requirements, and internal controls.

The Payroll Compliance and Tax Specialist serves as a subject matter resource for complex payroll tax and compliance matters and executes payroll processing as a trained back-up resource in support of the Payroll Operations team.

This role partners closely with Payroll Operations, Payroll Systems, Human Resources, Benefits, Finance & Accounting, and external vendors to resolve issues, support audit readiness, strengthen controls, and improve processes.

Job Responsibilities



* Conduct payroll audits and control reviews to evaluate accuracy, completeness, policy adherence, and SOX compliance.


* Analyze payroll results, reconciliations, and variances; identify discrepancies, risk areas, and appropriate resolutions before payroll finalization.


* Review and determine appropriate handling of payroll adjustments, corrections, retroactive payments, and overpayment recoveries in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.


* Research complex payroll discrepancies and coordinate resolution with Payroll Operations, Finance, Accounting, HR, and other stakeholders.


* Interpret and apply federal, state, and local wage and tax regulations, company policies, and internal controls to support compliant payroll practices.


* Serve as a resource for complex payroll tax, garnishment, audit, and compliance inquiries, evaluating issues and providing guidance consistent with policy and applicable requirements.


* Administer and monitor payroll tax compliance processes, including tax setup, filings, notices, reconciliations, amendments, agency correspondence, and regulatory reporting.
