Job Summary

Plans and carries out the installation and repairs of windows, doors, display cases, firehose cabinets, glass shelving, partitions, fixtures, or other surfaces such as interior walls, or table tops.

Reviews blueprints for specific information pertaining to various types of materials required for glazing such as wood, metal, steel, iron, aluminum sash, beveled glass, lead glass, protection glass, plate glass windows, wire glass, ribbed glass, ground glass, colored glass, figured glass, tempered and laminated glass, different types of insulating glass units, fiber glass, plastic, flat or corrugated, all types of opaque glass, and mirrors.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:



* High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) CertificateandFour (4) years of full-time work experience in the glass/glazing field

OR



* Successful completion of an approved and recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent pursuant to attaining Journeyman status as a Glazier.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.

Candidates who are selected to fill safety-sensitive positions must pass a required drug test as part of the pre-employment background check process.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:


* Thorough and extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, tools, equipment, materials, and techniques of the Glazier's trade.


* Skill in reading and following blueprints, sketches and other types of specifications.


* Ability to communicate effectively.


* Skill in the use and operation of hand and power tools.


* This position may require moderate to extensive travel to work assignments throughout Cook County, for which the employee must provide his or her own adequate means of transportation.
