Job Summary

Under the direction of the Machinist Foreman works from blueprints and written specifications and fabricates metal parts by the use of lathes, milling machines, drill presses, measuring instruments and other machine or hand tools.

May dismantle and assemble equipment for which a part is fabricated.

Installs the proper cutting tool and sets the speed and feed of the machine.

Inspects parts for wear, cracks or other defects, and reassembles after new parts have been fabricated.

Minimum Qualifications



* Successful completion of an accredited Journeyman Machinist training or apprenticeship program, One (1) year of full-time work experience as a Journeyman Machinist, and a Valid Driver's License

OR



* High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Test Certificate, Five (5) years full-time work experience as a Machinist, and a Valid Driver's License is required.

Preferred Qualifications:


* Successful completion of the Occupational Safety Health Act (OSHA thirty (30) hour course in construction, safety, and health) Is required.

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:


* Ability to set up and perform all operations on standard machine tools, working to tolerance of .0001 of an inch.


* Ability to read blueprints, plans the work sequence, selects the proper tools and metals and lays out work.


* Knowledge of the properties of various types of steel, brass, bronze and other metals.


* Knowledge of diesel/natural gas generators, battery powered utility carts, lifts, centrifugal pumps and air handling units.


* Thorough and comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and procedures pertinent to the Machinist's trade.
