BMS Hardware Design Engineer- (Engineer II, Digital Systems Technical Execution)

The BMS Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for developing complete hardwire design packages for building management and automation systems.
The role requires strong HVAC and controls fundamentals, disciplined document production, and the ability to coordinate technical requirements across mechanical, electrical, controls, and customer teams.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on BMS design experience with a quality-first mindset and clear communication in a global project environment.

What You Will Do

• Interpret mechanical, piping, electrical, plumbing, controls, and architectural drawings; project specifications; engineering standards; sales take-offs; sequences of operation; and customer requirements.
• Translate project requirements into coordinated BMS hardware designs with minimal supervision, identifying missing information, conflicts, and technical risks early.
• Produce and maintain system schematics, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, network architecture drawings, controller and I/O selection, point schedules, bills of material, and engineering submittals.
• Select and size field devices, including sensors, transmitters, actuators, dampers, and control valves, based on project requirements and applicable standards.
• Develop clear control logical diagrams and relay logic wiring that support installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and long-term serviceability.
• Coordinate BMS interfaces with HVAC equipment, electrical metering, packaged equipment, life-safety interfaces where applicable, and third-party systems.
• Perform design self-checks and peer reviews to verify technical accuracy, constructability, consistency, and compliance before release.
• Manage assigned engineering deliverables against project priorities, milestones, and revision cycles while communicating status and risks promptly.
• Collaborate with customers, project managers, application engineers, software engineers, panel builders, field teams, and remote engineering teams.
• Contribute to standardization, reusable design libraries, lessons learned, and continuous improvement of hardwire design practices.

Technical Scope
- BMS protocols (Optional) BACnet IP and MS/TP, Modbus TCP and RTU, LonWorks, OPC, and SNMP integration concepts.
- Core deliverables System schematics, point schedules, controller and device selection, network architecture, bills of material, panel layouts, terminal details, and wiring diagrams.
- HVAC systems Air-handling units, chillers, boilers, pumps, variable air volume systems, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and associated plant controls.
- Engineering tools Microsoft Visio and AutoCAD.

Familiarity with document control, progress reporting, Microsoft 365 collaboration tools such as proficiency with Excel.
- Controls platforms (Optional) Practical experience designing solutions using DDC and/or PLC-based control systems.
