Manager, Data Products
Every request for data, reporting, and analytics in the enterprise must start somewhere, what could you build if you owned that front door? If you have five or more years in data and analytics, with hands-on engineering and architecture depth in Azure and Databricks plus experience leading delivery across a portfolio of data work, we want to speak with you! We are currently seeking a Manager, Data Products, to join our Enterprise Data Strategy and AI Enablement function in Richmond, VA.
with a Hybrid work schedule, relocation benefits will be provided.
This role turns every business request into a well-defined data product while setting the technical direction for outsourced architecture and data management partners.
It is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a coordination position.
The ideal candidate is fluent in modern cloud data platforms, especially Azure and Databricks, and can independently evaluate designs, read pipelines, and assess cost and performance.
While outsourced partners handle much of the build and run work, success depends on establishing clear standards, providing strong technical guidance, and continuously improving the delivery model.
What you'll be doing: Demand Intake and Portfolio Management
Intake is the product this role manages first.
It should be predictable enough that a business sponsor knows what happens to a request the day they submit it.
* Own end-to-end demand intake for data and analytics: capture, qualify, size, prioritize, and disposition every incoming request against enterprise priorities and available capacity.
* Run intake itself as a managed service - publish service levels, maintain a single transparent backlog, and report throughput, aging, and demand mix to business and technology leadership.
* Translate business problems into data product definitions with named consumers, source systems, quality expectations, and success measures before build work begins.
* Facilitate a standing prioritization forum with business stakeholders and COE leadership, making trade-offs explicit rather than resolving them quietly.
* Identify duplicate and overlapping requests and consolidate them into reusable data products instead of one-off deliverables.
Guidance to Outsourced Data Architecture and Data Management Teams
Partners execute much of the delivery.
This role sets the technical direction they follow and decides what is good enough to accept.
* Provide day-to-day technical direction to outsourced data architecture and data management teams, including design reviews, solution walkthroughs, and formal acceptance of deliverables.
* Define and maintain the guardrails those teams work within: reference architectures, modeling and naming conventions, environment and release practices, and non-functional requirements.
* Review partner estimates and delivery plans for technical credibility, challenging scope, sequencing, and assumptions before work is committed.
