Job Summary

A Process Safety Engineer Intern may be assigned to assist in implementing and maintaining systems to reduce risk to diminish or remove hazards.

The Process Safety Engineer Intern actively works with Business Unit engineers in their designated operating areas to implement, update, improve PSM systems and processes, standards, and procedures, and communicates critical PSM/RMP-related performance information to the HSSE Department.

Position available Spring, Summer or Fall 2027

Minimum Qualifications



* Full-time student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.


* Must have completed 30 semester hours in the topics above.


* Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.


* Must have a valid driver's license.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration.

Candidates selected for employment must obtain a TWIC card.

Job Duties



* Assist with facilitating various forms of hazard analysis including Hazard and Operability Studies (HazOp), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), what-if, and what-if checklist methods.


* Assist with the PHA Program and the life cycle for the PHA process.


* Development of interim risk reduction strategies for high-consequence scenarios.


* Participate in HSE meetings.


* Interact regularly and frequently with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering at assigned areas to build rapport and to be aware of, and assist with resolving, process safety issues.
