OMJ Employment Specialist

The OMJ Employment Specialist is responsible for the daily operations of the OhioMeansJobs (OMJ) Career Center.

This role supports job seekers and employers through career planning, case management, workforce program navigation, and business engagement.

The position ensures compliance with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS), and Community Action Committee of Pike County (CAC) requirements while connecting individuals to meaningful employment opportunities.

Essential Functions Functional Area: Duties and Program Delivery Estimated Effort: 90% Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes and Expectations: Welcome and engage job seekers, employers, partners, and stakeholders in a professional, customer-focused manner.

Conduct OMJ intake interviews; collect, organize, and analyze client information to develop individualized, realistic employment plans.

Provide career counseling, goal setting, resume development, mock interviews, and ongoing follow-up services.

Maintain accurate OMJ client case files; enter services, activities, and outcomes into CFIS and related tracking systems.

Explain available CAC and OMJ Partner services and complete referrals for clients experiencing barriers such as housing, transportation, or personal needs.

Perform post-visit follow-up with clients, including sharing job leads, labor market information, events, and resources.

Unemployment Insurance (UI) Support: Assist clients with UI claims, including intake calls, claim status verification, demographic updates, and documentation.

Provide guidance on initial applications, pending or denied claims, weekly benefits, payments, and employer-related inquiries.

Perform PIN and password resets, ID verification, and required OMJ.com UI activities (career profile, Target Salary, etc.).

Research and respond to written and electronic UI inquiries; escalate issues as appropriate.

Participate in outbound call campaigns and attend UI-related trainings and meetings as required.

Program Operations and Outreach: Develop, maintain, and manage the monthly OMJ calendar, including employer rooms, training labs, and conference space reservations.

Develop and facilitate OMJ workshops and trainings (resume building, interviewing, OMJ website navigation, computer skills, social media job search, etc.).

Prepare presentations and reports for OMJ partners, CAC leadership, and Governing Board reporting.

Manage job postings for employers, including creating postings, job flyers, branding, and sharing opportunities across platforms.

Maintain and monitor OMJ social media platforms; track engagement metrics and respond to inquiries.

Conduct targeted resume searches and candidate referrals for employers.

Assist in planning and hosting business and workforce events such as job fairs, career fairs, networking events, and business summits.

Complete periodic ADA compliance audits of the OMJ facility and submit reports for corrective action.
