Landscape Design Intern

Essential Responsibilities Nursery & Yard Experience Assist with receiving and inspecting plants and materials.

Learn to identify plant varieties, sizes, and characteristics.

Help organize and stage plants and materials for upcoming projects.

Gain an understanding of plant availability, substitutions, seasonality, and material flow.

Observe and learn proper plant and material handling practices.

Landscape Design & Project Exposure Shadow experienced team members during sales calls, site visits, design meetings, estimating, production handoffs, installations, maintenance visits, and quality-control walks.

Participate in site measurements and site-analysis activities.

Observe how client needs, site conditions, plant selection, budget, and constructability influence landscape design.

Participate in guided design work and plant-selection exercises.

Gain introductory exposure to landscape estimating and project budgeting.

Observe how designs are communicated from the office to production and installation teams.

Ask questions and actively participate in learning opportunities.

Design Development & Capstone Complete assigned plant identification and design exercises.

Work with the technical mentor to develop a small, low-risk landscape design project.

Analyze the selected site and develop a design concept.

Develop a plant palette appropriate for the site.

Receive and incorporate feedback from the technical mentor.

Review quantities and budget considerations.

Prepare and present the completed capstone project.

Professional Development Maintain an internship learning and activity log.

Accurately record internship hours and completed activities.

Participate in weekly check-ins with the program owner.

Communicate questions, scheduling conflicts, and learning needs promptly.

Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, initiative, and willingness to learn.

Safety & Company Expectations Follow all Sun Valley Landscaping safety policies and jobsite expectations.

Complete required safety orientation before participating in field or nursery activities.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Follow all instructions provided by supervisors and department hosts.

Do not operate vehicles, equipment, or machinery without the required training and authorization.

Maintain confidentiality regarding company, employee, client, project, pricing, and design information.

Obtain appropriate review and approval before any work is used in a client proposal, design, price, installation, or external communication.
