Civil Associate I - Construction
What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker International is seeking a Civil Associate I - Construction to join our Construction Services team in either Madison or Milwaukee, WI.
The Civil EIT will report to the Construction Services Manager and support inspection projects across the state, with a primary focus on the Milwaukee and Madison areas.
You will be responsible for monitoring and documenting highway, roadway, and bridge construction to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
You will also perform field testing and inspection services for WisDOT and Local Public Agency (LPA) projects.
When not assigned to fieldwork, you may assist with design reviews for constructability, support proposal development, coordinate with clients on staffing needs, and track project progress.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Reviewing construction plans and specifications to identify potential constructability issues or discrepancies.
* Overseeing daily contractor and subcontractor activities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
* Responding to contractor inquiries regarding plans and specifications.
* Identifying and addressing deviations from approved construction methods and communicating necessary changes to contractors and clients.
* Measuring and documenting work progress to support accurate pay quantity calculations.
* Preparing detailed field sketches or digital templates to justify payment quantities.
* Conducting or coordinating material testing, including concrete (yield, slump, air content) and soil/aggregate (moisture, density) tests.
* Applying appropriate testing frequencies to ensure adequate coverage of materials used.
* Maintaining electronic daily work reports documenting pay quantities, materials, and contractor personnel.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
* Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
* Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or pursuit of Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure.
* 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience.
* Proficiency with roadway design software, CAD tools (MicroStation & AutoCAD), and Microsoft Office.
* Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and processes.
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
* Experience with WisDOT projects is preferred.
* Highway Technician Certification Program (HTCP) certifications are a plus.
COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $62,267 - $89,898 per year.
This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
