Firefighter - Lateral
The City of Tolleson is seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as Firefighters.
Firefighters are responsible for providing fire suppression and emergency medical services, along with fire prevention, hazardous materials response and mitigation, public education, and problem-solving; maintaining Fire Department equipment; participating in training; providing community and customer service; and performing various administrative functions.
Other duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining strength and cardiovascular health through physical conditioning and exercise; attending staff meetings; interacting with citizens and other departments and agencies; conducting hydrant flow testing, inspections, and maintaining service records; performing life-safety inspections; and maintaining proper records.
Note: The City of Tolleson is creating an eligibility list for the position of Lateral Firefighter.
Candidates are required to complete the NTN exam and department application to be considered for the position.
For purposes of this recruitment, candidates must meet the City of Tollesons minimum qualifications and be eligible to attend a regionally approved Bridge Academy.
A Bridge Academy is a regionally approved six-week training academy consisting of a minimum of 214.5 hours of training and designed for eligible professional firefighters.
Candidates must qualify for the Bridge Academy through one of the following eligibility pathways: The candidate has graduated from a Central Arizona Life Safety Council (CALSC) regional training academy, has a gap in professional firefighter employment of less than one year, and is currently certified to practice emergency medical care through the Arizona Department of Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic; orThe candidate is currently working as a full-time, paid professional firefighter within the State of Arizona, possesses valid Arizona Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications, and is currently certified to practice emergency medical care through the Arizona Department of Health Services as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic.
Candidates must also meet all prerequisite job requirements of the City of Tolleson.
Candidates who do not meet the Bridge Academy eligibility requirements may be required to attend a full regional training academy and may not qualify for this lateral recruitment.
Qualifications High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution and two (2) years of prior experience as a full-time, paid professional firefighter.
Candidates must possess current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) through the Arizona Department of Health Services and valid Arizona Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications.Certification as a Paramedic through the Arizona Department of Health Services is preferred.
Candidates must possess a valid Arizona drivers license or obtain one within one (1) month of the date of hire.
