Welding Technician I

PURPOSE The Welding Technician I is a member of the Welding Production team.

The purpose of this position is to support the welding, fabrication, and assembly of metal and/or aluminum structures using hand welding, cutting, grinding, and related tools and equipment.

The Weld Tech I performs assigned work in accordance with established procedures and under the direction of the Fabrication Supervisor, lead, or other experienced team member.

This is a developing skilled-trade position focused on building proficiency in welding, cutting, fabrication, quality standards, and safe work practices.

The Welding Technician must possess basic knowledge of the trade, craft, or industry of MIG welding, cutting and fabricating aluminum components.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE Basic knowledge and experience using welding equipment, hand tools, power tools, and techniques appropriate for assigned work.Basic knowledge of raw materials used in welding and fabrication.Basic understanding of how materials are used and how quality is maintained.Ability to read and follow basic blueprints, drawings, measurements, and work instructions.Ability to follow established operational methods, procedures, and work sequences.Ability to safely operate Forklift and Lull equipment when trained, qualified, and authorized.Basic knowledge of tool and equipment care; ability to recognize and report equipment problems or operating errors.Basic knowledge of safety guidelines and proper use of required safety equipment.Basic to intermediate welding and metal fabrication ability, with willingness to develop skills through training and experience.Ability to operate firefighting equipment when trained and required.Understands and follows safety rules and consistently wears required personal protective equipment.

TASKS & ACTIVITIES Set up, operate, and maintain welding and/or cutting equipment as trained and directed.Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions as qualified for the assigned work.Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits at all times.Examine workpieces for visible defects and measure workpieces with straightedges, squares, templates, or other measuring tools to verify conformance.Recognize and safely use hand and power tools common to the welding trade, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment, as trained.Perform welding on aluminum and other approved metals or alloys according to job requirements and demonstrated skill level.Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to specifications, work instructions, and supervisor direction.Identify and use the correct types and thicknesses of metals for assigned work.Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs using approved procedures and safety practices.Connect and adjust regulators and related equipment as trained and authorized.Use required equipment and welding methods according to work instructions, established procedures, and supervisor direction.Monito...
