Course Assistant - AI-First Software Engineering

Job Description

Non-Exempt (Hourly)

This is a part-time hourly position.

And have the following skills:


* AI-first software design patterns


* Prompting, grounding, and RAG


* Agentic workflow design


* Tool and function calling and orchestration logic


* Multi-agent systems, MCP, and A2A


* API design for AI-enabled applications


* GCP-based deployment patterns


* Cloud Run, containers, CI/CD, and artifact management


* Testing and evaluation of AI-enabled software


* Observability, logging, and monitoring


* Responsible AI, security, and operational guardrails

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:


* Grading student papers and examinations. 


* Administering exams as needed.


* Attending class lectures and office hours, functioning as a Zoom co-host as needed (for example: in heavily attended sessions, managing the Chat area while the instructor is talking).


* Forwarding the instructor any complex student inquiries (for example: in-depth questions about core content or assignments).


* Responding to routine student inquires (for example: simple questions about course materials or assignment instructions).


* Writing weekly summaries of student inquiries (typically no more than ½ - to 1 page).


* Logging instances where course content needs to be updated  (for example, missing or broken links, slides with typos, etc.)   


* Other administrative tasks as assigned. 

Course Assistants may not perform teaching duties. This is not a Teaching Assistant (TA) position.

Applicants must have excellent written, and oral communication skills.

Experience dealing with corporate clients a plus.

Compensation Range
In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the hourly base range for this position is $18-$30 depending on experience.

This range represents the University’s good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position’s scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations.

The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials.

This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
