GIS Forester

This is an in-person role based out of our office located in Underwood, WA.

Who You Are:You're a GIS professional who enjoys seeing how good data translates into real work on the ground.

You're comfortable managing and maintaining complex spatial data, creating useful maps, troubleshooting discrepancies, and supporting the people who rely on that information to make decisions.

You also enjoy getting out from behind the computer.

You're interested in forestry operations, comfortable working independently in the field, and willing to jump in wherever needed - whether that means collecting GPS data, checking a harvest operation, working with a contractor, or helping resolve a property boundary issue.

What the Job IsThis position provides GIS and operational forestry support for Green Diamond's Columbia Basin Management Area.

GIS will be a primary focus of the role, including stewardship of corporate GIS data, mapping, editing, GPS data processing, and support of the forest management system.

The position will also work closely with the forestry team to support harvest, silviculture, inventory, road, and property management activities.

It's a good fit for someone who likes the technical side of natural resource management but also wants to stay connected to field operations and see firsthand how their work is being used.

What the Department is LikeYou'll be part of a forestry team responsible for managing working forestlands with a focus on safe, responsible, and effective forest management.

The work is collaborative, but this role also requires someone who can take ownership of their responsibilities, manage competing priorities, and work independently.

You'll interact regularly with foresters, contractors, the GIS and inventory teams, regulatory agencies, and occasionally members of the public.

Some days will be spent working with GIS data and maps; others may have you in the field supporting active forestry operations or property management activities.

What You'll Do Serve as the primary steward of GIS data for the area, including maintaining, editing, updating, and troubleshooting spatial data and associated records.

Create maps and maintain GIS information using ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and our internal forest management system to support forestry operations, regulatory applications, contracts, and special projects.

Coordinate GIS data and projects with the GIS and Inventory team, including quarterly depletion updates and property acquisition and disposition activities.

Collect and process GPS data for property boundaries, roads, streams, wildlife features, and other operational needs.

Manage the property survey program, including contracting, administration, recordkeeping, GIS updates, and encroachment monitoring.

Support harvest unit and haul road layout and assist with field oversight of logging, road construction and maintenance, site preparation, planting, and other forestry activities.
