Language and Culture Teacher

Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Language and Culture Department Manager, the teacher organizes and implements a Keres language educational curriculum for Santa Ana Pueblo members from kindergarten to twelfth grades and for the Community Youth and adult population.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Align language and culture instructions with all Language and Culture teaching personnel, for Kindergarten through Twelfth grades with content learning strategies.

Teaching in a manner that addresses individual student needs and enables the student to improve his or her performance.

Monitor each student's progress toward achieving content learning standards.

Modify instructional methods when necessary for students to actively engage in learning.

Encourage parental involvement and provide updates on their student(s) learning language, culture, and traditional age-relevant appropriate instructions.

Integrate technology to support in and out of classroom instructions.

Provide Keres language and culture instructions for the Santa Ana youth and adults.

Assists the Language and Culture team with community-based activities which include active participation in special events, working committees on various activities, field trips and the Summer Language program grade levels 1st through 12th grades.

Submit Quarterly and Annual student progress reports.

Facilitate community language forums as needed.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.

Contributes team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

Performs other duties and tasks relevant to the position as required.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma, make a commitment to learn and speak the Tamaya Keres language, have some knowledge in the Tamayame culture, and traditions.

Be optimistic in acquiring the knowledge and skills required of a teacher, must obtain the Native American language Teacher Certification from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED), within 6 months of hire.

Must successfully pass a background investigation and possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.
