Quality Engineer - Kraft Linerboard

Quality Engineer - Ensures products meet customer, regulatory, internal quality, and stewardship expectations.

This role leads technical investigations, drives corrective and preventive actions, supports risk-based product decisions, and partners with operations, technical, environmental, commercial, and supply chain teams to prevent repeat issues.

Georgia-Pacific Toledo is a producer of brown paper used to make cardboard and is a leader in recycling in the Northwest.

The Toledo Mill is located within a 10-minute drive to the Pacific Ocean.

Many outdoor activities are available near the mill including fishing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and boating.

What You Will Do

• Lead structured root cause analyses for customer complaints, product nonconformances, process deviations, audit findings, and recurring quality issues using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa, FMEA, and statistical trending.

• Own or support Product Stewardship activities, including containment, investigation, action planning, implementation, verification of effectiveness, documentation, and closure.

• Serve as a product stewardship resource by evaluating quality risks, regulatory considerations, customer use requirements, specification changes, and life-cycle impacts.

• Partner with manufacturing, technical, environmental, procurement, logistics, sales, and customer-facing teams to align product decisions with safety, compliance, customer expectations, and business risk.

• Analyze production, lab, inspection, customer feedback, and process data to identify trends, prevent defects, reduce variation, and improve product performance.

• Develops and coaches the Operations Teams on quality procedures, control plans, inspection criteria, specifications, and product disposition workflows.

• Support customer complaint investigations, technical reviews, audit responses, claims, regulatory inquiries, and product stewardship reviews.

• Coach teams on disciplined problem solving, evidence-based decisions, quality expectations, and effective documentation.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, materials science, paper science, quality management, or a related technical field.

• Experience in quality engineering, manufacturing, process engineering, technical service, product stewardship, or a related industrial role.

• Demonstrated ability to lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions that prevent recurrence.

• Working knowledge of quality management systems, product specifications, process control, audit practices, and data-based problem solving.

• Ability to interpret technical data, laboratory results, customer requirements, process trends, and product performance information.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into clear business and customer-facing messages.
