Student Worker (Fed Work Study) - Reading Tutor
General Job Brief Reading tutors serve Title 1 students by identifying a student who is learning how to read and/or is struggling with decoding unknown words.
The tutor is to come alongside the student to identify what the child understands and needs to learn.
Under the guidance of their professor, the tutor will create a series of lesson plans to address the student's needs.
The tutor will conduct a minimum of ten sessions for a total of 10 hours with the student.
The tutor will observe and also administer formative assessments during the 10 sessions.
At the end of the 10 sessions, the tutor will reassess the student to identify growth and provide next steps.
This role also requires a comprehensive understanding of and commitment to the unique Christian mission and vision of ACU to Transform Culture with Truth, and the ability to advance that mission and vision through the performance of its duties, including person-to-person mentorship and discipleship.
Primary Duties Administer pretests to determine student's current knowledge and abilitiesCreate and administer 10 lessons designed to address needed skillsAdminister formative assessments throughout the lessons.Reflect on each lessonAdminister posttests at the end of the 10 lessons.
Other Duties and Responsibilities Commitment to the Universitys faith statement, mission, and purposes; and an active Christian faithComfort and familiarity with the practice of praying with and for others, including students, faculty, and fellow University staffThe ability to meaningfully support and encourage students, faculty, and staff from a biblical worldview perspective, using relevant and applicable references from the Old and New Testaments and orthodox Christian writings.Demonstrated alignment with and enthusiastic support for the Christian Mission and Core Commitments of the University, including signing the University's Statement of Faith and Core Commitments annually.
Qualifications Must be currently enrolled as a student at ACUHave and maintain a cumulative and semester GPA of 3.5 or abovePossess good interpersonal communication skillsComplete a FAFSA Fair Labor Standards Act This position is part-time and non-exempt for overtime pay provisions as provided by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and any applicable state laws.
