Driver - Tank Wagon
JOB PURPOSE:
Deliver fuel oil, kerosene and similar products from BCOC storage sites to residential and commercial customers by safely operating a tank wagon, complying with state and federal regulations governing the transport and delivery of hazardous materials.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
•High school diploma or GED combined with successful completion of driver training certification from an accredited technical school or specialty driving program, combined with a minimum of six months experience operating comparable equipment.
•Must possess and maintain a current, valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements to operate a motor vehicle over 26,000 pounds.
Endorsements include air brakes, tankers and hazardous materials.
•Must complete all procedures necessary to maintain the Class B CDL, including completion of an annual physical conducted by a physician of company's choosing at company expense, submitting to random drug and alcohol testing, and annual review of driving record violations.
•Possess state Class C training and certification for hazardous materials, complying with EPA and MDEQ regulations.
•Basic math skills and the ability to calculate and record rate, ratio and percentage data.
•Good communication skills and ability to interact with customer representatives and Store Managers.
•Must be able to work on uneven surfaces and ascend and descend a ladder safely.
•Sound, mature judgment and ability to always operate safely.
MAJOR DUTIES:
•Deliveries: Load truck as specified on each dispatch order, ensuring materials are loaded in correct compartments and labeled correctly.
Plan route for each trip to minimize travel time and ensure safe road conditions.
Safely deliver products to customers.
Record delivery of products and volumes.
Obtain customer signatures as necessary.
•Equipment Maintenance: Complete daily pre and post trip inspections, perform minor maintenance work as necessary.
Clean distribution lines, valves and other tank equipment as necessary to prevent cross contamination of products.
Report on any operational hazards, such as hazards in loading or unloading areas, or equipment issues to the Branch Manager.
Keep assigned vehicle clean.
•Record keeping: Promptly and accurately maintain daily manifests and trip logs, equipment logs, sales records and other operational records required by company policy.
Complete and return documents to Dispatch daily.
•Hazardous Materials: Report any spills immediately, to both the supervisor and the Hazmat Emergency Response number.
Maintain required records of any incidents.
•Customer Service: Establish and maintain satisfactory working relationship with customers.
Notify the supervisor of changes in customer business or needs.
Be aware of opportunities to increase sales and improve customer relations and bring these to the attention of the manager.
