Student Nurse Technician

Position Summary The Student Nurse Technician supports high-quality patient care by assisting the nursing team with direct patient care activities and unit operations under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

This entry-level role performs activities of daily living, basic clinical tasks, and unit support functions across areas such as Inpatient Post-Surgical, Pre-Admission Testing, Pre-Op, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and the Operating Room.

Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and meal-related needs.

Perform basic clinical tasks such as blood glucose testing, obtaining urine and blood specimens, removing IV catheters and Foley catheters, and performing EKGs.

Support nutritional care by assisting with menu selection, tray delivery, feeding as needed, and documenting intake, output, calorie counts, vital signs, and Foley output; notify the RN of missing meal trays.

Collect meal trays; prepare and deliver nourishments, water, and ice; maintain dietary supplies; clean patient refrigerators; and update temperature logs.

Obtain and document vital signs and promptly report abnormal findings, patient concerns, or unusual occurrences to the RN.

Assist with patient transfers, mobility, transport, and discharge activities, including equipment removal and escorting patients to pre-op or testing areas using proper identification.

Disinfect patient rooms, beds, chairs, and equipment; stock and restock bedside and unit supplies; maintain blanket warmers; and replace full sharps containers.

Distribute clean linens, collect soiled linens, stock linen carts, make beds, and report maintenance or laundry concerns as needed.

Perform routine errands, including transporting specimens, documents, or equipment.

Support unit operations by assisting other caregivers, unit clerical staff, and answering phones under RN supervision.

All other duties not specifically assigned.

Position Requirements Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program pursuing an associates or bachelors degree in nursing; completion of at least one clinical rotation preferred.

Experience: Previous patient care or customer service experience preferred.

Technical Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.

Basic mathematical skills required to accurately record patient data.

Strong interpersonal skills to support effective communication with patients, families, and care team members.

Knowledge of basic medical terminology and common clinical abbreviations preferred.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: BLS within 3 months of hire.
