Asset Engineer

Flint Hills Resources is looking to hire an Asset Engineer at our Pine Bend refinery in Rosemount, MN.

The Asset Engineer has accountability to the health, performance, and availability of the assets in their defined area; this role is specifically focused on the Alkylation Unit.

This is a key role in the refinery that will work with many disciplines, primarily: Operations, Process Engineering, Reliability & Construction.

Our Team

The Asset Engineer is a core team member of the Production Area Team.

This team exists to excel in maintaining, improving and restoring assets needed to run the refinery every day.

What You Will Do

Play a leading role in maintaining and improving equipment availability of your designated area.

Work with a team that has diverse knowledge focused on availability, risk management, cost optimization, and business improvement.



* Lead complex critical equipment troubleshooting and develop/align on scope of repair


* Lead development and alignment on turnaround work scope for equipment while optimizing cost, availability, and risk


* Oversee, audit, and implement equipment reliability strategies


* Perform root cause failure analysis to understand equipment failures and update equipment strategies as appropriate


* Lead change through the MOC process, ensuring process safety hazards are identified and changes are clearly documented


* Track and forecast maintenance spending for your area


* Act as project manager on select reliability and business improvement projects


* Some overtime may be required, which might include nights, weekends and holidays during turnarounds and outages


* Able to climb structures and inspect equipment both at high elevations and in confined spaces

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)



* Three (3) years or more of refining experience


* Knowledge and understanding of refinery equipment with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems/failures


* Experience framing opportunities and advancing initiatives


* Experience with refinery equipment maintenance and repair

What Will Put You Ahead



* Five (5) years or more refining and/or chemicals experience


* Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering


* Experience with process piping fabrication & repairs, process pump mechanical seals & failure modes and process level/flow technology


* Process safety knowledge & understanding; familiar with the MOC process


* Experience with construction management, field execution, and craft coordination


* Experience in project development, economic thinking, and marginal analysis

For this role, we anticipate paying $100,000 - $175,000 per year.

This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
