Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for supporting and maintaining compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations at the manufacturing facility, including OSHA, EPA, and Utah requirements.

This position oversees environmental permitting activities, safety programs, inspections, incident response, and employee training initiatives to promote a safe and compliant workplace.

The EHS Specialist works closely with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to ensure continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities: Conduct routine facility safety and environmental inspections to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Maintain compliance with air permitting, stormwater permitting programs, and waste management, including required documentation, monitoring, sampling, reporting, and recordkeeping.

Respond to workplace incidents, environmental releases, and safety concerns in a timely manner.

Lead accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Maintain the facility Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program and ensure chemical inventory records remain accurate and current.

Create and conduct employee safety, environmental, and compliance training programs, including new hire orientation and annual refresher training.

Support and oversee the Facility Safety Committee and the Facility Emergency Response Team, including scheduling meetings, tracking action items, and promoting employee engagement in safety initiatives.

Assist with regulatory inspections and audits from OSHA, EPA, and state/local agencies.

Submit workers compensation claims and maintain communication with claim adjustors.

Coordinate restricted work and absences with the HR department and operations.

Track and maintain EHS records, permits, training documentation, industrial hygiene (IH) testing, audiograms, respirator fit tests, and compliance reports.

Promote a proactive safety culture through employee involvement, hazard recognition, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to address safety concerns and implement corrective actions.

Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.

Supports the mission of the organization and adheres to all company policies.

Performs other duties as directed.

Proficiency with EHS data management systems and Microsoft Office tools.

Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, environmental engineering, occupational health and safety or related field of study.

At least three years of applicable experience required.

First aid, CPR, AED certification a plus but not mandatory.

OSHA 30 or equivalent training a plus but not mandatory.

Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP or CHMM are a plus but not mandatory.
