Position Overview

The Estimator is responsible for accurately determining material, equipment, and labor requirements for construction projects using project specifications and historical data.

This role develops detailed budgets and proposals that comply with legal standards and company policies.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


* Conduct pre-bid site visits to evaluate conditions, gather measurements, understand traffic and haul routes, and identify factors impacting costs and schedule.


* Prepare detail cost estimates for asphalt paving, milling, and related construction projects including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.


* Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to identify scope, requirements, and potential risks.


* Prepare and submit competitive bids and proposals in compliance with local regulations and company standards.


* Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, contractors, and engineers.


* Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality.


* Work closely with construction team to align estimates with execution plans.


* Utilize estimating software and digital tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.


* Assure all estimates adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and Michigan DOT requirements.


* Monitor project through all phases and update estimates based on constructability and quantities.


* Generate various reports required by immediate supervisor.


* Perform work required per supervisor's instruction.


* Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.


* Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.

Report any problems to the Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.


* Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.


* Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience


* Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field or equivalent in training and experience.


* Valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
