JOB OVERVIEW :
Under close direction of an Environmental Health Program Manager, receives on the job training in routine environmental health work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Conduct routine inspections for compliance with regulations.
Conduct general environmental surveys.
Investigate complaints relating to general environmental health programs.
Perform sampling, surveillance, and monitoring for specific environmental health program requirements.
Review and evaluate laboratory results, construction plans, specifications, and systems.
Participate in emergency response situations, and make recommendations concerning environmental health aspects.
Assist in the enforcement of local, state and federal environmental health regulations.
Accumulate evidence of violations of environmental health laws and help to initiates legal action.
Initiate necessary abatement procedures.
Listed duties are performed in, but not limited to, one (1) or more of the following programs:
Food Service ; Public Swimming Pools; Solid Waste; Drinking Water; Air Pollution; Housing; Vector Control; Water Quality; Wastewater; Complaints; Public Accommodations; Institutions; Radiation; Hazardous Waste; Other Related Programs

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE :
Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an Environmental Health Program accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC);
OR
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in a college or university with a major study in one of the following:
Agronomy; Biology; Botany; Chemistry; Environmental Health Science; Geology; Microbiology; Physics; Physiology; Sanitary Engineering; Zoology;
OR
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in a college or university including:
A college or university level algebra or math course.
30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours from at least three (3) of the curriculums listed in requirement (2.) above.
AND
Licensure: Applicant must be qualified to become licensed as an Environmental Health Scientist-in-training at time of hire.
