Milker I

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 1.

Prepare milking equipment and bulk tank for milking.

2.

Bring in cows for milking or help other employees bring in cows if needed or requested.

3.

Wear gloves when milking to help prevent spread of mastitis-causing organisms.

4.

Follow recommended pre-milking preparation of cattle before milking.

5.

Milk all cows in an orderly, proper and consistent manner.

6.

Note cows that may have mastitis or are ill and are in need of treatment; inform the manager for possible treatment.

(No treatment will be done without permission of the manager.) 7.

Clean the milking parlor, including but not limited to holding area, bulk tank room, pasteurizer room, break room, bath room, and entry/exit ways.

8.

Operate all milking equipment as recommended by the manager and factory specifications.

9.

After milking, be sure all machinery and sanitation procedures are followed according to manufacturers specification and Grade A Standards of the Public Milk Ordinance.

10.

Clipping off tail hair prior to cows leaving the hospital.

11.

Take cows back to corrals after milking.

Milking Related Activities: 1.

Help to get cattle in barn if necessary.

2.

Identify treated cows with appropriate markers, such as leg bands, tail chalk, etc.

3.

Assist in ordering supplies by making a list and bringing to the managers attention any items in short supply.

4.

Perform other procedures as assigned that promote accurate identification and animal well-being.

5.

In case of an emergency, employee may be called to work on a regular scheduled day off.

6.

Assist in moving sick or down cows, always to be done in a safe and humane way for both the employee and the animal.

Always to be done with help, never by yourself.

Other responsibilities (approximately 10 percent of daily work schedule).

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements: Minimum education of High School or equivalent.

One year of experience in farm or dairy work.

Organizational Support: Follows policies and procedures; Completes tasks correctly and on time; Supports organization's goals and values; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.

Reports to Herdsmen and Manager.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

? While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

? The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.

As well as safely climbing off and on equipment.

? The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 40 pounds.

? Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions: Spends majority of their working hours in milking parlor in the open air in all temperatures and conditions.
