Certified Medical Assistant
Job Summary:The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is responsible for providing clinical and administrative duties.
The CMA ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care by assisting with patient examinations, preparing exam rooms, managing medical records, and performing other tasks as directed.
This role is essential to maintaining efficient workflow and fostering a welcoming environment for patients.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Duties/Responsibilities:Clinical Duties (may include, but not limited to):•Taking medical history•Explaining treatment procedures to patients•Preparing patients for examinations•Assisting the physician during examinations•Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens•Performing basic laboratory tests•Instructing patients about medication and special diets•Preparing and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections--including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant)•Transmitting prescription refills as directed•Phlebotomy•Taking electrocardiograms•Wound care and changing dressingsAdministrative Duties (may include, but not limited to):•Using computer applications•Answering telephones•Welcoming patients•Updating and filing patient medical records•Coding and filling out insurance forms•Scheduling appointments•Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services•Handling correspondence, billing, and bookkeeping•Performs other duties as assigned.Required Skills/Abilities:•Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) system•Strong communication and interpersonal skills•Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-pressure environment•Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures•Commitment to patient privacy and confidentialityEducation and Experience:•High school diploma or equivalent required•Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from an accredited programPhysical Requirements:•Capability to bend, stoop, and kneel to assess patients or perform procedures•Ability to lift and carry items up to 25-50 pounds (e.g., medical equipment or assisting patients with mobility)
