Job Summary
Under the supervision of the District Maintenance Supervisor, performs non-routine and complex engineering assignments.
Responsible for elements of an entire project of relatively limited scope, or a portion of a larger diverse project that may involve planning, design, construction, and/or maintenance.
Performs or directs various traffic control coordination, various field surveys/investigations, preparation of plan details, inspections, measurements, and/or calculations.
Supervises and assigns subordinate employees to specific tasks and functions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
* Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification is required.
* Four (4) years of full- time work experience supervising, operating, or maintaining highways and their appurtenances, such as pavement, drainage systems, bridges, and landscaping within roadway jurisdiction, which includes three (3) years of full-time work experience as a Laborer or Motor Vehicle Driver (Road Repairman); OR two (2) years full-time work experience in a supervisory or crew leader/foreman role is required.
* Experience in snow and ice roadway removal operations is required.
* Valid driver's license and proof of insurance is required.
This position is considered a safety-sensitive position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
* Knowledge of State Standards and Specifications for Road and Bridge Maintenance and/or procedures.
* Knowledge of Cook County Highway road systems.
* Knowledge of proper documentation procedures.
* Advanced skills in engineering principles, practices, and techniques, and the use of engineering tools and devices
