Director of Disability Services / Accessibility Resources
Position Summary
The Director of Disability Services reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and provides strategic vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for all programs, services, and accommodations supporting students with disabilities.
The Director ensures institutional compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other applicable regulations and serves as the institution’s subject matter expert on accessibility and disability services.
The Director collaborates across academic and administrative units to support compliance, remove barriers to access, and facilitate access to academic and campus programs.
The Director leads the office, oversees the accommodation process, manages complex cases, and serves as the institutional authority on accommodation determinations and related appeals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Direction
* Provide leadership for Disability Services, including program development, service delivery, and long-term strategic planning.
* Develop, implement, and assess short- and long-term goals aligned with institutional priorities related to student success and retention.
* Serve as the campus leader on accessibility and accommodation practices.
Compliance & Policy Oversight
* Ensure institutional compliance with ADA, Section 504, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
* Serve as the primary institutional expert on legal requirements and compliance frameworks, including documentation standards and accommodation decision-making.
* Lead the process for determining reasonable accommodations through individualized evaluation of documentation.
* Develop, interpret, and enforce institutional policies and procedures related to disability services.
Student Services & Case Management
* Oversee the intake, eligibility determination, and coordination of accommodations for students with disabilities.
* Provide leadership on complex or high-impact cases and serve as the final decision-maker for accommodation determinations, appeals, and grievances.
* Ensure timely delivery of services, including:
* Testing accommodations and exam proctoring
* Note-taking and academic support services
* Alternative format materials
* Interpreting, captioning, and auxiliary aids
* Assistive technology access and training
* Maintain a visible and supportive presence for students and families, including prospective student engagement and transition support.
Institutional Collaboration
* Partner with Academic Affairs, faculty, deans, and department chairs to support implementation of accommodations and address accessibility needs.
