Senior Environmental Scientist

LATA is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to provide technical leadership for environmental chemistry and data validation activities across a diverse portfolio of environmental restoration projects..

This position will provide technical leadership for proposals, project planning, quality-assurance documentation, laboratory coordination, environmental data validation, and the management and development of junior chemistry staff.

The position will support Department of War, Department of Energy, EPA, and other federal and commercial environmental-restoration programs.

Responsibilities: Lead the environmental chemistry and data-validation technical approach for proposals and business-development opportunities.

Develop proposal scopes, staffing plans, technical approaches, assumptions, schedules, and cost estimates for chemistry and data-validation services.

Prepare, review, and maintain UFP-QAPPs, work plans, field sampling plans, laboratory scopes of work, SOPs, data-validation plans, and other quality-assurance documents.

Serve as LATA's senior technical authority for environmental analytical chemistry, laboratory data quality, and data usability.

Manage, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level chemists and data-validation personnel.

Assign and monitor chemistry workloads, schedules, and technical deliverables.

Establish and maintain data-validation procedures, checklists, templates, and training materials.

Provide senior or final technical review of complex data-validation packages, reports, and data-usability assessments.

Coordinate with analytical laboratories regarding methods, reporting limits, data-quality issues, corrective actions, and project-specific requirements.

Provide technical support to project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies regarding analytical methods, laboratory performance, data validation, and data usability.

Support audits, corrective actions, quality-system improvements, and laboratory performance evaluations.

Ensure chemistry activities comply with applicable EPA, DoD, DOE, USACE, state, and project-specific requirements.

Support environmental projects involving soil, groundwater, sediment, surface water, wastewater, emerging contaminants, and PFAS.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific discipline with substantial chemistry coursework.

An advanced degree is preferred.

At least 10 years of directly relevant environmental analytical chemistry, environmental consulting, or environmental data validation experience.

Demonstrated experience developing complete UFP-QAPPs, work plans, SOPs, sampling plans, and laboratory scopes of work.

Demonstrated experience leading technical portions of proposals, including scopes, staffing assumptions, technical approaches, and cost estimates.

Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring chemists, data validators, or other technical personnel.
