TFS Director of Development

Position Summary: Tsuru for Solidaritys Director of Development position leads development work at the organization, with a mix of individual giving, fundraising events, corporate and foundation grants.

About Us: Tsuru for Solidaritys mission is to educate, advocate, and protest to close all detention sites; build solidarity with other communities of color that have experienced forced removal, detention, deportation, separation of families, and other forms of racial and state violence; coordinate intergenerational, cross-community healing circles addressing the trauma of our shared histories.

Tsuru for Solidarity is a program of Community Initiatives.

Tsuru for Solidarity is a member and fiscally sponsored project of Asian Americans for Civil Rights and Equality (AACRE), a network dedicated to long-term movement building and social justice infrastructure.

An employee hired for this role will be an employee of AACRE.

Position Description Tsuru for Solidarity (TFS) seeks a Director of Development to lead the development work of the organization.

This position will be supervised by the TFS Executive Director and will work closely with the Leadership Council (board) as well as the fundraising committee.

Regular participation in virtual meetings typically scheduled Mondays-Fridays from 12pm-5pm Eastern time is required.

Travel to TFS events, about 20% of time, is required.

Some evening and weekend work is also required.

Key Responsibilities Lead annual giving campaign Design and oversee the organizations annual fundraising campaign, including setting fundraising goals, developing campaign messaging and timelines, tracking performance, and analyzing results to refine the campaign year over year.

Develop and steward donor network Build and strengthen relationships with individual donors, create and implement a donor stewardship plan, and maintain regular communications, recognition, and donor engagement.

Lead fundraising events including from individual donors and corporate sponsors Plan, coordinate, and deliver fundraising events that engage both individual donors and corporate sponsors.

Manage event logistics, sponsorship packages, attendee experience, and post event follow-ups.

Prospect, write, and administer foundation grants Research and identify new foundation funding opportunities aligned with TFS goals and priorities, draft grant proposals and letters of inquiries, and manage the full grant lifecycle including deadlines, compliance, reporting, and maintaining funder relationships.

Strategic thought partner to Executive Director, Directors, and Leadership Council on development Collaborate and partner closely with the Executive Director, Directors, and Leadership Council to shape the overall TFS development strategy.

Provide recommendations on donor cultivation, campaign planning, and revenue growth.
