Job Summary :

Under general supervision, performs a variety of specialized tasks to provide clerical support to an independent central panel of Administrative Law Judges authorized to conduct administrative proceedings for County departments, agencies, boards, and commissions.

Assists Administrative Law Judges with the adjudication process of violations for the Departments of Revenue, Building and Zoning, Environmental Control, Animal Control, Public Health, Cook County Sheriff, and Forest Preserve District.

Assists with maintaining Administrative Hearing records and files of revenue, taxes, licenses and permit fees collected under each revenue, tax, license or permit measures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Certificate is required.

• Two (2) of full-time clerical / administrative work experience is required.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States territories and Canada, must be credentialed by the World Education Services (WES), Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) or a National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES) member organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• General knowledge of legal terminology and other court related documents.

• Knowledge of correct language usage, punctuation and grammar, and their proper application to business forms, letters, and technical records.

Knowledge of technical and legal terms and their proper spelling, where applicable.

• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

• Skill and accuracy in the control, organization, and maintenance of files and records.

• Good communication skills; ability to gather information from others and make inquiries; ability to convey information and explain or describe basic office policy and procedure to others in person or by telephone.

• Skill in exercising sound judgment relative to problem solving and referring problems in the appropriate manner.

• Skill in the operation of standard office equipment.

• Good attention to multifarious detail, ability to proof, verify, and edit complex data, transcribe and cross reference data from CRT screen and documents.

Ability to follow-up in a thorough and timely manner relative to unresolved business.
