26-VEHST-Vehicle Service Technician

Description

The Vehicle Service Technician performs maintenance, repair, and inspection of organizational vehicles to ensure safe, reliable transportation for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

This role supports fleet operations by maintaining vehicle readiness, identifying issues early, and completing work in alignment with The Arc of Central Alabama's standards for safety, reliability, and service continuity.

Key responsibilities

Performing routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, and scheduled inspections; diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and safety-related issues; completing preventive maintenance activities to reduce breakdowns and extend vehicle life; inspecting vehicles for safety, wear, and regulatory compliance; responding to repair requests and prioritizing work orders based on operational needs; maintaining accurate service records, maintenance logs, and inspection documentation; coordinating with the Fleet Manager on repair timelines, parts, and external vendor support when needed; ensuring vehicles meet licensing, safety, and regulatory requirements; maintaining tools, equipment, and workspaces in safe and organized condition; supporting vehicle readiness for daily program use; assisting with emergency or urgent repair needs; and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and reliable service aligned with The Arc's mission.

Requirements



* Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks (oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad inspections).


* System Diagnostics: Inspect and repair engine mechanical/electrical systems, computer systems, and safety equipment.


* Fluid & Part Replacement: Lubricate parts, replace fluids, and install new components such as belts, hoses, and filters.


* Vehicle Safety Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of brakes, steering, and suspension to ensure vehicle reliability
