Clinic Medical Assistant
Position Summary The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and maintaining a compassionate and efficient healthcare environment.
This position requires a combination of clinical expertise, administrative skills, and exceptional patient interaction.
POSITION SUMMARY EXPANDED: Under the Oklahoma Marijuana Medical Act (The Unity Bill) this position is considered a Safety-sensitive position.
Safety-sensitive is defined to include any job that includes tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others.
Employees working in safety-sensitive roles are subject to this exception and subject to disciplinary action in the event of a positive test for marijuana or its metabolites.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITES The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following areas: Patient Care: Assist healthcare providers in performing clinical procedures, such as taking vital signs, administering medications, and preparing patients for examinations.
Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring they are clean, stocked, and well-organized.
Provide patient education on procedures, medications, and follow-up care.
Collect and document patient medical histories and chief complaints accurately.
Administrative Duties: Greet and check-in patients, verifying their demographic and insurance information.
Schedule appointments, manage patient flow, and ensure timely clinic operations.
Maintain electronic health records (EHR) accurately and securely.
Handle phone calls, inquiries, and appointment reminders efficiently.
Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control protocols, including proper hand hygiene, cleaning, and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment.
Monitor and maintain a clean and safe clinic environment.
Collaborative Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
Communicate patient concerns, updates, and pertinent information to the healthcare team.
Compliance and Regulations: Follow all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
Maintain certification and stay up to date with continuing education requirements.
Emergency Preparedness: Assist during emergencies and urgent situations, including following established protocols for life-saving interventions and patient support.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, preferred.
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA) is highly desirable.
Previous experience in a clinical or urgent care setting is an asset.
Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
