Lead Data Engineer - Mainframe DB2 DBA
As a Lead Data Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Commercial & Investment Bank - Production Management team, you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver data collection, storage, access, and analytics solutions in a secure, stable, and scalable way.
As a core technical contributor, you are responsible for maintaining critical data pipelines and architectures across multiple technical areas within various business functions in support of the firm's business objectives.
Job responsibilities
* Maintains and supports Db2 database applications
* Uses enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate data platform and model design analysis and documentation, validating outputs and handling data according to sensitivity and security requirements.
* Experienced with mainframe environment and use of TSO / ISPF / JCL
* Develop rapport with application development teams for collaboration
* Expertise with troubleshooting / diagnosing mainframe db2 related issues
* Maintains review of controls to ensure sufficient protection of enterprise data
* Implements database back-up, recovery, and archiving strategy
* DDL Deployment , environment data refreshes, regular health checks
* Maintains highest levels of stability, integrity, reliability, and availability
* Experience with SQL and databases utilities including connectivity
* Adds to team culture of team work , collaboration, and partnership
* Applies reuse-first, AI-assisted practices within delivery and operational routines (e.g., backup/recovery validation and access control review support), ensuring traceability/auditability and alignment to resiliency and security expectations.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
* Formal training or certification on Data Engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
* Working knowledge of relational databases (RDBMS) and SQL operations
* Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to support data engineering workflows with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity.
* Ability to review and validate AI-assisted outputs (e.g., model/design summaries or operational checklists) before use, escalating when uncertain and following data handling requirements.
* Working knowledge of JES2 and JCL, including RACF / ACF2 Security and CA7 / ZEKE
* Experience with performance analysis to optimize SQL workloads
* Knowledge of SYSPlex mainframe configuration including Data Sharing
* Knowledge of the data lifecycle and data management functions
* Working knowledge of mainframe data system components
* Strong understanding of data modeling fundamentals (e.g., primary and foreign keys, constraints, indexing, etc.)
