Position Title: NPS / Historic Preservation Training Center - Carpentry & Woodworking Member – Individual Placement 

Conservation Legacy Program: Stewards Individual Placements

Purpose:

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with internships service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.

Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health.

 

The Historic Preservation Training Center (HPTC) is a division under the Park Planning, Facilities and Lands (PPFL) directorate of the National Park Service (NPS).

HPTC offers skilled day labor services in the preservation trades, architecture, and project management fields to preserve and maintain our nation's historic resources.

Our skilled staff use our project work as a vehicle to train others in preservation philosophy, preservation technology, the traditional trades, and project management skills.

 

This member position will be assigned to a Preservation Trades Section within the Historic Preservation Training Center of the National Park Service.

The purpose of the position is to perform work on typical preservation projects for a variety of historic structures.

Projects vary greatly and are dependent upon the site where participants work.

Travel will be required.

Projects can include window and door restoration; millwork replication and fabrication; structural repairs and timber-framing; exterior envelopes; wood, slate, and metal roofing.

Tasks for participants include but are not limited to: measuring and cutting boards; simple framing or roofing work; ability to measure, cut, or install wood components of historic structures using on-site measurements, verbal directions, drawings, and specifications.

 

Description of Duties:

Members will assist in:


* Window and door restoration


* Millwork replication and fabrication


* Structural repairs and timber-framing


* Wood, slate, and metal roofing


* Measuring and cutting boards


* Install wood components of historic structures using on-site measurements, verbal directions, drawings, and specification

 

Qualifications:


* United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.


* Must be 18-30 years of age, maximum 35 for Veterans with DD-214.
