Position Overview

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of an asphalt roller machine.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


* Operate equipment safely and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths.


* Thorough understanding of preparatory work required, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.


* Responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment.

Expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.


* Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.


* Participate in daily toolbox meetings.


* Review safety and risk assessment, daily production goals and crew member responsibilities.


* Identify, Locate, Mark and Communicate overhead hazard with others on the crew and truck drivers.


* Locate, identify and mark project specific hazards.


* Have understanding of procedures in the event of an incident.


* Conduct documented task training prior to equipment use.


* Travel from interstate highway to rural dirt roads from various locations.


* May assist Laborer at various job sites as needed.

Education/Experience


* High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred.

Work Requirements


* Previous heavy equipment operation experience or training is highly preferred.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


* Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.


* Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


* Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.


* Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
