Underwriter

Salary Range: $38.46 – $43.25/ hr.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Underwrite residential mortgage loans for sale in the secondary market, as well as portfolio mortgages, home equity loans/lines.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


* Underwrite Conventional mortgage loans pursuant to secondary market guidelines.


* Underwrite residential portfolio loans.


* Underwrite home equity loans and lines, providing approvals within stipulated time frames.


* Underwrite FHA, USDA, VA and residential construction loans (after satisfactory transition period)


* Develop and maintain expert knowledge base related to underwriting requirements of correspondent lending partners (investors).


* Develop and maintain good working relationships with bank loan originators, sales staff and processors.


* Update retail lending policies and operating procedures when necessary.


* Assure proper maintenance of information in Credit and Legal Documentation Files.


* Ensure the bank is meeting compliance requirements for the residential lending business.


* Maintain strong knowledge base on Bank Policies, Laws and Regulations that govern residential mortgage lending.


* Prepare and issue commitment letters and provide to Loan Officers.


* Active participation in demonstrating the behaviors outlined in the GRB Experience.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business-related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience underwriting mortgage loans and retail lending credit analysis, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.


* Active CHUMS # required (may be obtained after satisfactory training/ transition period)


* SAR ID# and SONYMA experience preferred.


* Expert knowledge with FHA regulations and underwriting guidelines.


* Knowledge and experience in the secondary market arena.


* Knowledge of Fannie Mae DU, Freddie Mac LP, and GUS.
