Purpose:
Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards), a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with internships service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.
Participants serve with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits to provide institutional capacity, develop community relationships, and support ecosystem health.
Stewards in partnership with the Historic Preservation Training Center will host a facilities member.
This Facilities Member position is an hourly internship position that will work to preserve and maintain national parks or partner facilities by demonstrating outstanding leadership, delivering quality preservation services, and developing educational courses that fulfill the competency requirements of service employees.
This will include general and routine maintenance of HPTC facilities, including but not limited to Hargett Farm, Gambrill House, and Jenkins Cannery.
This member position will be assigned to a Preservation Trades Section within the Historic Preservation Training Center Facilities Team, part of the National Park Service.
The purpose of the position is to perform work on typical preservation projects for a variety of historic structures.
Projects vary greatly and are dependent upon the site where participants work.
Description of Duties:
* Performs simple and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities
* Perform landscaping work such as mowing grass, weeding, mulching, seasonal cleanup
* Perform minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools in fabricating replacement wood components, rough framing, shelving, roofing
* Perform minor painting using, brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects
* Performs minor plumbing repairs such as tightening/replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures, replaces faucet washers, unplugs drains
* Performs masonry repairs, raking and repointing of masonry joinery, brick and block, concrete/cement repairs, re-grading grounds, spreading gravel
* Performs custodial duties such as wiping, mopping, vacuuming horizontal and vertical surfaces, remove trash and recycling, cleans bathroom toilets, bathroom sinks, kitchens
