Occupational Therapist Responsibilities


* Evaluate residents within 24 hours (or one business day) of physician referral


* Develop individualized treatment plans and obtain physician approval


* Provide evidence-based occupational therapy treatments to maximize independence and function


* Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, recertifications, and discharge summaries accurately and timely


* Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, families, and the interdisciplinary care team


* Participate in care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and discharge planning


* Train restorative nursing staff and caregivers on maintenance programs and safe patient care techniques


* Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs), rehabilitation aides, and therapy students in accordance with state practice guidelines


* Recommend adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment (DME) to improve resident safety and independence


* Participate in facility education and staff in-service programs


* Maintain therapy equipment and report maintenance concerns promptly

Qualifications


* Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program


* Current California Occupational Therapist license in good standing


* New graduates are encouraged to apply


* Skilled nursing or post-acute experience preferred, but not required


* Strong communication, organization, and clinical reasoning skills


* Experience with PointClickCare, Casamba, or other electronic medical record systems preferred


* Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
