Power Systems Field Technician

Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Power Systems Field Technician to report out of our South Elgin, IL branch.

This is a union position and will be part of Local 150.The expected hourly pay for this role rang es between $ 41.57-$63.95 based on candidate experience.

The primary responsibilities of the position consist of, but are not limited to:


* Apply technical experience to effectively inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Power Systems equipment


* Complete service reports, PM checklists, and timecards in alignment with departmental standards.


* Leverage your previous experience to perform service tasks efficiently and accurately.


* Exhibit a strong dedication to customer satisfaction by clearly and consistently communicating job updates to both clients and internal team members.


* Responsible for the inventory of onboard parts


* Perform comprehensive visual inspections and testing on engine and generator sets, identifying and documenting any deficiencies during preventive maintenance.


* Upkeep of the service truck


* Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities


* Performs other duties as assigned


* Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time


* Availability for after-hours calls, as well as overnight work.

Skills and Qualifications:


* Previous experience with CAT, Cummins, and Volvo Engines is required.


* Minimum of three years of previous experience in electric power generator maintenance and repair


* Excellent mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of the following systems: engine, power train, hydraulics and electrical


* Possess own tools


* A positive attitude and high energy


* Computer programs - Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.


* Language Skills - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.


* Mathematical Skills - Basic: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.


* Reasoning Ability - Intermediate: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


* Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record to be considered for this position.
