The Position
You will complete your internship/Master's thesis in the Near Patient Care Research & Early Development chapter.
The chapter's mission is the pre-development of near patient care systems for subsequent product development.
Your task will consist of developing a novel flow-through biosensor and characterizing its performance.
To accomplish this, you will:
* Build up a fluidic test setup for whole blood processing
* Develop new sensor layouts and methods for layer construction, employing state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques
* Integrate functional sensor components into the fluidic test setup.
* Synthesize/assemble and characterize different functional sensor components, including thick-film sensors
* Evaluate measurement data using newly developed algorithms and advanced analytical methods
* Work independently on assigned work packages: plan and execute experiments, document results, and prepare detailed technical analyses
Who You Are
We are looking for a highly motivated student with the following educational background:
* Currently enrolled in a Master’s program, with a B.Sc.
degree in Biomedical Engineering, Microsystems Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Physics, Electrochemistry, or a related field (very good grades required)
Technical Experience & Knowledge:
* Ideally, you bring knowledge and experience in prototyping of microfluidic devices and manufacturing or characterization of (bio)sensors
* You are experienced in instrument control programming and fluidics control engineering
* You are familiar with the fundamentals of optical, spectroscopic and electrochemical measurement techniques
* Ideally, you have knowledge of micromachining processes
* Ideally, you possess not only basic knowledge of statistics, but also experience with methods for filtering and fitting measurement data
* Familiarity with various analytical and characterization methods is advantageous
* Willingness to work with human material, e.g., whole blood samples, plasma, serum, and interstitial fluid is required
Personal Qualities:
* High technical interest, especially in interdisciplinary work
* Enthusiasm and passion for microfluidics and biosensor development
* Independence, strong commitment, and goal-oriented mindset
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills; approachability and sociability
* Advanced level of English and at least an Upper-Intermediate level of German...
