What you'll do on a typical day


* Maintain UNIX/Linux server environments and ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability of enterprise systems


* Develop, test, and implement system enhancements and configuration improvements following established change management processes


* Create and maintain automation scripts to improve the efficiency of daily operational and maintenance activities


* Evaluate, configure, test, and deploy new technologies to enhance infrastructure capabilities and support business objectives


* Maintain accurate configuration and asset management records for hardware, software, and infrastructure changes


* Design, implement, and execute standardized procedures to monitor system health and generate operational reports and logs


* Lead and manage infrastructure projects, ensuring timely completion and successful delivery of technical objectives


* Provide technical leadership, guidance, and support to Level 2 UNIX/Linux engineers, assisting with incident resolution and operational best practices


* Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation and support critical incident response activities


* Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams on performance improvements, new site deployments, relocations, upgrades, and infrastructure initiatives

What you need to succeed at GXO

At a minimum, you'll need



* Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or equivalent related work or military experience


* 5-7 years of UNIX/Linux system administration experience within a production environment


* Strong expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8 and 9), Debian, Solaris, and HPUX operating systems
