Loss Control Specialist

The County of Riverside's Human Resources Department has an exciting opportunity for a Loss Control Specialist in Riverside.

The Loss Control Specialist plays a key role in identifying, analyzing, and mitigating liability exposures across the County of Riverside.

This position is responsible for intaking and reviewing incidents, accidents, tort claims, lawsuits, and other reported liability concerns involving property, bodily injury, employment practices, and operational risk.

The Specialist evaluates these materials to determine root causes, prepares findings, initial defense strategy and provides recommendations to the Risk Management Steering Committee, Departments and Human Resources leadership.

In partnership with Risk Management, Safety Loss Control and Worker's Compensation, the position supports efforts to promote a safe working environment, reduce known hazards, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety and life safety regulations.

The role also assists departments in interpreting and mitigating risk in industrial and varied operational settings by recommending practical, cost-effective loss control solutions.

Additionally, the Loss Control Specialist manages and coordinates the County's response to subpoenas, California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests, and litigation-related document requests.

This includes working closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate, and legally compliant responses.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a multi-discipline environment, strong written and verbal communication skills, and a solid understanding of risk management principles, loss control practices, legal compliance, records management, and the processes related to subpoenas and CPRA requests.

Employees in a Confidential designated class are defined by Section 3.b.

of the Employee Relations Resolution, as "any employee who may be privy to the decision-making process of County management affecting employee relations" and are only authorized for assignments within the departments of Executive Office, Clerk of the Board, County Counsel, and Human Resources.
