Lecturer in Kinesiology
Cornell College, a private undergraduate liberal arts college in Mount Vernon, Iowa, is seeking a Lecturer(s) in Kinesiology for up to 5 sections of introductory courses beginning August 2026. Applicants may be considered for one course, multiple courses, or all 5 courses.
A Ph.D.
in Kinesiology or a closely related field is preferred; candidates with at least a master’s degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field will also be considered. Experience in teaching at the college level is strongly preferred.
Course and term dates:
Because Cornell utilizes a block schedule for its courses, you would teach one course full time during each of the four-week sessions.
The following courses are potentially needed.
KIN 212 - Sports and American Society (Block 1: August 24-September 16)
Exploration of the impact of amateur and professional sports on the American way of life.
Sample topics include women in sports, sports and the African-American community, sports as big business, and the relationship between sport and education.
Readings reflecting a variety of viewpoints about the role of sports in American society will be selected from contemporary literature.
KIN 101 - Lifetime Physical Fitness and Activities (Block 2: September 21-October 14 and Block 7:March 15-April 7)
Instruction in the major components of fitness, the physiological basis of fitness, evaluation of personal fitness, and individual fitness programming.
Exploration of the intersection of diet, stress, resilience, and physical activity on health.
Instruction and participation in lifetime physical activities including designing and engaging in strength/resistance training, flexibility, and cardiovascular exercise, and lifestyle fitness.
KIN 260 - Individual/Family Life Health & Wellness (Block 3: October 19- November 11)
This course will examine health from a broad perspective including aspects of social, emotional, spiritual, and mental health.
Special topics will include substance abuse and the impact of psycho-social factors on personal wellness, family life, and community well-being.
KIN 205 - Coaching Endorsement or Authorization (Block 4: November 16-December 16, Block 7:March 15-April 7, 2027)
Structure and function of the human body during physical activity.
Knowledge and understanding of human growth and development of children in relation to physical activity.
Athletic conditioning, theory of coaching interscholastic athletics, professional ethics, and legal responsibility.
Combined with KIN 237, this course meets the requirement for an Iowa Coaching Endorsement for Education majors and Coaching Authorization for all other students.
KIN 237 - Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries (Block 4: November 16-December 16 , Block 6: Feb 8- March 3, 2027)
Prevention and treatment of athletic injuries, taping experience, understanding the principles of athletic training, and first aid and emergency care.
