Senior Institutional Nurse - CHS - Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility

The Riverside University Health System-Correctional Health Systems, (RUHS-CHS), is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Institutional Nurse to join their team at the Larry D.

Smith Correctional Facility located in Banning.

The selected candidate will be responsible for assigning, supervising, and evaluating nursing services provided within adult and/or juvenile confinement or correctional facilities.

Duties include overseeing and training nursing staff in the performance of their responsibilities, supporting recruitment efforts through applicant interviews and hiring recommendations, conducting new hire orientations, and assisting with employee performance evaluations.

The incumbent will supervise the administration of medications and treatments, ensure the procurement and maintenance of medical supplies and medications, and collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers in the examination and treatment of patients.

Additional responsibilities include reviewing and implementing physicians' orders, responding to and initiating treatment during medical emergencies throughout the facility, assessing patients' physical and emotional needs, and coordinating transfers to medical centers for advanced diagnosis and treatment when necessary.

The selected candidate will also ensure compliance with nursing standards established by the State of California, maintain accurate documentation of treatments and medications, and provide education to patients and their families regarding medical conditions and healthcare practices.

The most competitive candidates will possess a minimum of three (3) years of full-time experience as an Institutional Nurse or Registered Nurse, preferably within an acute care hospital or correctional facility.

Experience serving as a Charge Nurse or in a comparable supervisory role within an acute care hospital or healthcare facility for at least two (2) years is highly desirable.

Licenses and Certifications:



* A current and valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.


* A current and valid Basic Life Support, (BLS), certification, issued by the American Heart Association.

A Certification as a Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP) is highly preferred.
