Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to oversee respiratory care operations during the night shift.
This leadership role is responsible for directing shift activities, ensuring safe and effective patient care delivery, supporting staff development, and promoting quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives.
The Lead RRT serves as a clinical resource for respiratory therapy staff, physicians, patients, and families, while maintaining operational excellence and equipment readiness across critical care environments.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Shift Management
* Direct and oversee respiratory care operations for the assigned night shift
* Assign patient workloads based on acuity and staff competency
* Facilitate interdisciplinary communication to ensure timely care and discharges
* Communicate staffing, patient care, and performance concerns to leadership
* Assign preceptors and support onboarding and training
* Maintain productivity and financial stewardship
* Ensure daily equipment functionality and calibration
Clinical Support & Staff Development
* Provide direct patient care and medication administration as needed
* Serve as a clinical resource to RT staff across critical care areas
* Support orientation, training, and student clinical rotations
* Assist with annual skills competencies and staff education tracking
* Identify and communicate staff learning needs and educational opportunities
Quality, Safety & Performance Improvement
* Round on patients to evaluate quality and appropriateness of care
* Promote accountability and peer coaching to support best practices
* Participate in Performance Improvement (PI), patient experience, and safety initiatives
* Assist with PI data collection and monitoring
* Promote evidence-based respiratory care practices
Required Education
* Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy
* Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy – Preferred
(100 credit hours toward a BS degree may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor’s)
Required Licensure & Certifications
(All required upon hire unless otherwise stated)
* NBRC – Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
* Georgia Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) License
* BLS – Basic Life Support
* ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
* PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (within 180 days if provisional)
* NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program (within 180 days if provisional)
