DNA Lab Technician
DNA Lab Technician
This position will require 3 to 5 days per week in the office- depending on workload.
Provides intermediate technical support on projects and day-to-day activities.
The primary responsibilities of the position are to utilize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform routine high-throughput DNA isolation and PCR amplification assays to support the Forage Genetics Intl.'s (FGI) product development pipeline.
Supports project work through intermediate testing, analysis, and project organization (i.e.
write SOP's, communicate timelines, manage inventory).
Organizes data so conclusions/results can be made.
Duty or Area of Responsibility
Lab Facility - 20% Set-up, operation, and cleaning of equipment to support R&D trial work.
Maintains inventory of reagents and consumables to keep lab operating without delays.
Routine maintenance of lab equipment.
Supports project work outside of the facility when needed (University, plant trials, etc.)
Process Technology - 50% Supporting trials (on-site) through coordination of materials, schedule and sample handling/submissions.
Set-up, operation and cleaning of some equipment to support R&D trial work.
Prepare reagents and consumables as needed.
Analytical - 25% Performs intermediate analysis in multiple areas.
May perform advanced analysis and processes with guidance.
Work with manager and FGI research team on exploratory and projects to support business operations.
Perform quality control checks on results.
Communicates results and any problems to manager in a timely fashion.
Lab Safety - 5% Adheres to all R&D policies for Safety
Required Experience and Education:
* Associates degree in a related technical field (life sciences) with 2-4 years of work experience in a research/testing lab OR a Bachelor's with 1-2 years or relevant experience, OR equivalent work experience
* Knowledge of DNA isolation and qPCR amplification principles
* Experience performing intermediate technical work independently
* Ability to work with appropriate systems for task (SharePoint, Excel, Word)
* Experience structuring data to capture observations and facilitate analysis and conclusions; recognizes and communicates trends and tasks performed
Preferred Experience/Knowledge:
* Bachelor's degree in a life science or related technical field with experience with QuantStudio qPCR amplification platform.
Salary range: $51,520 - $77,280 (in most cases, candidates offered employment can expect to be hired at a pay rate near the middle of our salary ranges)
