Equipment Operator II

The County of Riverside's Department of Waste Resources has an opportunity for an Equipment Operator II who will be assigned to the Badlands landfill, located in Moreno Valley.

The Equipment Operator II is responsible for the skilled operation of a wide variety both wheeled and tracked motorized construction and maintenance equipment in support of the construction, reconstruction, and ongoing maintenance at both open and closed County landfills.

This position requires advanced training and the ability to perform complex tasks using a broad range of heavy and light equipment, including but not limited to full-sized and mini excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, motor graders, scrapers, compactors, water trucks, rock trucks, and dump trucks, in support of public works projects, facility maintenance and landfill site operations.

Competitive candidates will possess experience in landfill maintenance or construction, including operating equipment such as backhoes, dozers, excavators, scrapers, motor graders, and dump trucks in support of site operations.

This position follows a 4/10 schedule.

The Equipment Operator II may be required to work at least one Saturday a month (subject to change based on department needs).

Possession of a valid California Commercial Driver License: Class A or B i s required when applying for this position.

A DMV Driving Report (generated within the last 30 days) must be attached to your application to advance to an interview.

The Department of Waste Resources serves the County's solid waste disposal needs by providing for efficient and effective landfilling of County non-hazardous waste, protecting the environment, and promoting recycling in order to ensure a safe and healthy community for current and future generations.• Operate tracked and/or wheeled motorized construction equipment (e.g., loaders, excavators, motor graders, scrapers, refuse compactors, oil mixers, and dozers) within required tolerance in the maintenance and construction of roads, landfills, flood control channels, and other public work facilities.

• Prepare, grade, and shape new county roads, landfills, and flood control channels; check and set grades.

• Work from survey reference marks, plans, and specifications; clear roads, channels and other facilities of storm debris and damage; construct and repair storm drains, culverts, catch basins, and concrete gutters.

• Service and maintain assigned equipment; may operate low-bed or trucks with trailers in hauling equipment or materials.

• Use a variety of hand and power tools in performing work.Experience: Two years in the maintenance or construction of public work facilities (e.g., roads, airports, landfills, or flood control channels) which included one year operating tracked and/or wheeled motorized construction equipment as a primary duty.

Note: Candidates will be manually tested on heavy equipment operation during the interview.
