Maintenance Director

General Purpose:

The primary purpose of the Maintenance Director position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Maintenance Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

This role ensures that our facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner, as directed by the Administrator.

Essential Duties:



* Maintenance Oversight: Ensure that maintenance schedules are followed as outlined for respective shifts or areas and develop and maintain written maintenance policies and procedures.


* Department Management: Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the Maintenance Department, including its programs and activities.


* Coordination: Coordinate maintenance services and activities with other related departments (e.g., Dietary, Nursing, Activities).


* Administrative Leadership: Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for directing the Maintenance Department.


* Infection Control Support: Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related maintenance functions to ensure safety regarding exposure to blood/body fluids.


* Inspections: Inspect storage rooms, workrooms, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control.


* Compliance: Participate in facility surveys (inspections) conducted by authorized government agencies as necessary and develop a plan of correction for any maintenance deficiencies noted during these inspections.


* Vendor Management: Ensure that services performed by outside vendors are completed and supervised in accordance with contracts/work orders.


* Staff Meetings: Meet regularly with maintenance personnel, solicit advice from interdepartmental supervisors, and assist in identifying and correcting problem areas to improve services.


* Personnel Management: Review and assess the competence of maintenance personnel and make necessary adjustments or corrections as required.


* Quality Control: Make daily rounds to verify that maintenance personnel are performing required duties and that appropriate maintenance procedures are in place.


* Collaboration: Maintain productive working relationships with other department supervisors and coordinate maintenance services to ensure uninterrupted service.


* Safety Programs: Supervise safety and fire protection/prevention programs by inspecting work areas and equipment at least weekly.


* Safety Compliance: Ensure that maintenance personnel follow established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies, and that safety equipment is used when lifting or moving heavy objects.
