Software Developer II-Bridge

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker International is seeking a Software Developer II-Bridge to support and maintain a large suite of bridge design applications.

The engineer/developer will be part of Michael Baker's Bridge Software Department.

This department has been applying computer technology to bridge profession for over 30 years, using bridge engineering experience combined with a wide range of programming skills.

This position will be responsible for utilizing a combination of bridge design skills and software development skills.

While working under the direct supervision of registered Professional Engineers, the position involves both bridge design and software engineering related skills and may provide opportunities to cross over to work within our bridge design department.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS


* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.


* 3 to 5 years of software development experience


* Strong foundation in software development principles, including object-oriented design, version control, debugging, and testing practices.


* Experience working with compiled or strongly typed languages (e.g., C#, C++, Java, or similar), with the ability to learn additional languages as needed.


* Willingness to maintain and enhance existing production systems while actively contributing to modernization and long-term improvement efforts.


* Ability to read, understand, and implement technical specifications and engineering-driven requirements.


* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both software developers and practicing engineers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


* Background in design or drafting, particularly of bridge or transportation infrastructure.


* Professional Engineering (P.E.) license, or the ability and intent to obtain licensure.


* Familiarity with CADD software including MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or OpenBridge Modeler.


* Experience supporting or modernizing large, long-lived software systems, including refactoring, improving maintainability, or migrating to newer architectures.


* Experience with .NET technologies or modern desktop application development.


* Experience with Fortran or other scientific software development involving numerical methods, computational analysis, or results verification.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position is $89,044 - $140,233 per year.
