Field Technician I
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of this position is to determine the status of and provide support for school and activity buses within the school bus industry.
This includes all types of planned maintenance services, as well as routine field level repair, replacement, and installation of parts to restore the bus to its proper operation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
* Review planned activities and verify equipment and supplies required to perform the scheduled work are available, comply with PPE requirements, and otherwise prepare for daily activities.
* Use repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to troubleshoot engines, engine fuel systems, and transmissions.
* Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aides to lift or move parts into position to be repaired.
* Use hand and power tools to remove, install, repair, and test components.
* Use miscellaneous resources and computers to reference parts, get information about parts, and enter data into record systems.
* Use hand and power tools to disassemble/reassemble parts or equipment, drains fluids, and clean parts with rags, cleaners, and power washer.
* Climb on, under, and into vehicle engine compartment, and uses hand and power tools to disassemble/reassemble system components.
* Replace pumps, batteries, radiators (200 lb.
with assistance), bearings, seals, wiring, solenoids, fuel lines, nozzles, tests float valves, glow plugs, alternators, etc.
* Use various types of meters, measuring devices, and computers to test and recalibrate equipment.
* Perform inspections, complete preventative maintenance, change oil, replace filters, belts, coolants, hoses, and drain/clean/refill fuel systems.
* Operate equipment that requires a class B CDL license with appropriate endorsement.
* Perform maintenance and repairs associated with the following engines: Cummins ISB, as well as Ford 6.8L(V10) and 7.3L(V8) engines.
* Perform maintenance and repairs associated with air brakes, air conditioning, basic electricity with experience and understanding of wiring and hydraulic shematics.
* Perform maintenance and repairs associated with air bags, king pins, foundation brakes, differentials, clutches and transmissions.
* Ability to work with multiple management groups and staff to help provide the best possible customer service.
* Ability to work flexible hours which would include being part of a on - call rotation with other technicians.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Must have a high school education or GED.
Work Experience:
Three years of experience with at least two years of experience working on school/activity buses, or comparable experience working in an original equipment manufacturer dealership.
Possess solid understanding of equipment systems and sub-systems (i.e., engines, hydraulics, electrical, transmissions, etc.) for respective product lines.
